When a student stares blankly at a worksheet, fails to follow multi-step directions, or struggles to initiate a task, they aren't necessarily unmotivated or distracted. For many students, that "blank stare" isn't a lack of attention— it is a sign of a language difficulty or disorder. This session is designed to help classroom staff identify the signs of receptive and expressive language difficulties and provide actionable strategies to improve language comprehension and use. Participants will learn how language deficits mimic attention issues and discover evidence-based classroom interventions designed to bridge the gap between language development and core curriculum literacy.
